Nina and Keith Barnes

Southern Utah University has been a meaningful thread throughout our lives and our family's story.

Southern Utah University has been a meaningful thread throughout our lives and our family's story. After Keith graduated from law school in 1995, we began asking where we wanted to raise our family and build our lives. We knew one thing-it had to be a university town. Cedar City, with SUU at its heart, made that decision easy. Within our first month, we had SUU license plates, and before long, we were attending games, events, and activities that would become part of our lives for decades. The campus quickly became a second home for our family and the center of many of our community activities and service efforts.

All five of our children began their education at the SUU Preschool, and so many of our family memories were shaped on that campus-from sports camps and Utah Summer Games to Shakespeare Festival plays, Sunday walks, volunteering, coaching, and teaching. Nina returned to SUU as a mother of five to earn her Master of Public Administration, later serving on the Board of Trustees and continuing to teach as an adjunct professor in Political Science. Through all of this, we came to deeply appreciate SUU not just as a university, but as a place that brings people together, builds character, and creates opportunity.

Our lives have been centered on service, leadership, and lifting others, and SUU has reflected and strengthened those values at every step. Including SUU in our planned giving is both a gesture of gratitude and an investment in the future. We deeply believe in the university's mission and the students it serves. It is meaningful to us to know that, even beyond our lifetimes, we can help support SUU in continuing to educate, inspire, and develop the next generation of leaders.
